Why did Bedfordite.com shut down for 6 months?
Bedfordite.com went offline in July of 2004 because the web hosting fees weren't paid. During the time that it was offline, the creators decided to add new features and put rules into the system to clean up the content. These changes were made in December '04 and the site was re-launched the following month.
What are the new features?
- Submitter Identification
(people who submit multiple bad-taste postings will be forced to register)
- Upload photos
($3.00 upload fee, photos are reviewed and submitter name is shown)
- Respond directly to sightings
(responses will appear below original sighting)
- Dictionary category
(currently allows votes, will be expanded to its own section)
- Member Links
(use this site to build traffic for your community related site)
- Member Announcements
(use this site for publicizing your event/opportunity)
Do I have to register?
NO, you do not have to register. Registration is required for people who submit sightings that are rejected. However, if you submit good taste material then you will not be required to register. Registration is also required for some of the new advanced features.
Can I use Bedfordite.com to advertise my business or my event?
Yes. Registered members can add links and add announcements. Please be aware that your link must be related to the community. Those that are not related are subject to removal.
Who maintains Bedfordite.com?
You do. This site was built to allow the community to control the content. Bedfordite.com is an engine, not a page that gets updated regularly by the webmaster. The site has been programmed to automatically reject vulgar postings, and block users whose postings get removed often. Please be sure to remove postings that are offensive because this will force the submitter to identify him/herself via registration.
Who created Bedfordite.com?
The material that was posted in 2003 made Bedforite.com popular. It was submitted by people who went to Bedford High School in the 80's and early 90's. The "Bedford lingo" popular on this site is rumored to have originated in "East Bedford" in the late 70's and early 80's. The general website idea was created by Jon R. '89 and Luke M. '89, and the site itself was developed by Mark M. '93. If you want to know more about the creators, email bedfordite@wishbonepro.com.
